The Water Race 6/12hr Rogaine (14 September 2024)
Event Details
We are returning to Fryerstown the Water Race Rogaine. Starting from a new Hash House site close to the east of town. This site will provide quicker access to the forest. There are many water races throughout the course area. Many blue watercourses on this map follow contour lines rather than gullies.
Fryers Range State Forest and Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park have excellent spur and gully terrain with lots of open forest vegetation. Expect to discover areas of past mining activity.

Volunteers Needed
Rogaines are run entirely by volunteers, and we need help with this event. If you’d like to volunteer for a role, sign up here.
Night Navigation Training
We will be holding a Zoom session on 29 August so people can learn about the particular issues and the additional thrill of finding a check point in the dark.
Registrations Close:11/09/2024
Location Description
Fryerstown is located 11km SSW of Castlemaine and best accessed by turning off the Pyrenees Highway at Chewton. It is a sealed road all the way to the Hash House.
Course
The course area has extensive areas of old gold mining remains including the many water races dug to divert water to storage dams. Checkpoints at major mine locations and an old roasting kiln although the latter has no signage to confirm it was a roasting kiln. The Hash House is in the middle of the map with lots of options for loops in and out. For beginners there is a 5 km loop with controls on or adjacent to tracks and trails or a longer 10km road loop, with controls easily accessible form the road.
Map
The map will be printed on SRA3 non water proof paper at 1:25,000 Scale, 10m contours and grid aligned to grid north.
