About Rogaining

What is rogaining?

Rogaining is a navigation team sport combining outdoor adventure with strategy in a race against the clock. Think of it as an outdoor treasure hunt for all ages. Your goal is to race against the clock as you navigate to as many checkpoints (“controls”) as possible to collect points.

That’s where the navigation strategy comes in. Every team approaches a rogaine in a different way. Some are out to race to every point on the course, while others want the kudos of finding the most challenging checkpoints. The bottom line is that the course you choose is up to you.

Some just want to enjoy a good hike with friends while others are striving for a personal best. That’s the best thing about rogaining: we give you the map, and you choose your own adventure. Then when the clock stops, everyone sits down to swap stories over a good feed. On second thoughts, maybe the food is the best thing about rogaining!

Whatever challenge you want, we have the event for you. Choose to rogaine in the bush, on bikes, in kayaks, through city streets, and even over snow.

Learn more about the sport of rogaining on our dedicated Training page. Here, you will find everything you need to know about rogaining, including excellent videos on navigation and strategy, and a link to sign up to the next available in-person training day.

Meet the Victorian Rogaining Association

Some of us have been rogaining for decades, others got roped into it by our significant others and have never looked back. What unites us is our love of the outdoors, the thrill of adventure, and a common goal: to encourage people of all ages to enjoy the sport of rogaining through fun, inclusive events across Victoria.

We’re a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers. If you want to be part of the fun, we’d love to hear from you.
