It was a rainless and sometimes sunny weekend in Glenluce as over 400 competitors, trainees, coaches and volunteers escaped the wet and gloom in Melbourne and surrounds for the undulating hillsides, rolling farmland, pleasant forest and mining ruins and remnants of some familiar classic rogaining territory.
We are grateful to Ron Frederick and Ron Wescott for co-ordinating and setting the course, featuring a family/beginner-friendly loop, a maximum checkpoint value of a singular 70-pointer and which was not without its challenges in route selection, gullies aplenty and many unmarked tracks. It ended up close at the top on Saturday:
Saturday*
1st – Geoff Lawford, Rod Gray (1140pts)
2nd – Byron Sanford, Jordan Sanford (1130pts)
2rd – Cian O’reilly, Andrew Mccarthy (1120pts)Sunday

Thank you to Peter and Sue for making their property available to us and thanks once again to the Castlemaine Lions Club for the outstanding BBQ and juicy burgers, yet again. We also heartily enjoyed filling up on the tasty bolognaise, apricot curry and hot soup from the VRA catering team, led by Phil Jelliff and Steve Horton.
Thank you to Norm O’Bryan for organising our training program on Sunday, and our coaches Tim Plozza, Paul Monks, Ian Gordon, Rod Gray, Ron Frederick & Don Baker who took out teams. We appreciate the help of all our other volunteers before, during and after: Grant Jeffrey, Phil Giddings, Nick Somes, Steve Goyen, Sarah Goyen, Colin Hall, Paula Horton, Lorraine Morgan, Fiona Brown, Katherine Brown, Andrea Gardiner, John Gardiner, Gary Buchan, Del Lloyd, Ilze Kundzina, Julie Flynn, Simin Ngan, Peter Chen, Ainslie Cummins, Ruth Vonarx, Lawrie Vonarx, Sue Noy, John Jore, Rod Gray & Andrew McCarthy.
Many thanks to Paula and Steve for stepping in last minute to fill essential Navlight and Catering roles, and Nick for covering water/safety both days.
Note: Saturday results have now been finalised with corrected times due to faulty punches. There has been a small change in the overall results (highlighted in pink in the results) although none of the top three teams in any category were impacted.
