Spargo Scramble 2x6hr Rogaine (5 & 6 April 2025)

Some competitors ‘enjoying’ some of the tougher of parts of the course.

What a fantastic weekend to kick off bush rogaines for 2025. Both Saturday and Sunday’s 6hour event were blessed with lovely Rogaine weather and as a result we saw our competitors out on course for the maximum possible time. Improbably, on Sunday, we didn’t see a single team return before 5 hours into the event. The volunteer team at the hash house were starting to get worried. Fortunately, all teams returned back safely with a smile on their faces and the odd scratch on their legs as they navigated through some of the fallen vegetation in the western side of the course.

As always, these events would quite literally not be possible without the efforts of our wonderful volunteer team, with special thanks to Elizabeth Dornam and Shelly Bambrook who both coordinated and set this event. Additionally we had an army of volunteers both before, during and after the event including, Andrea Gardiner, Ann Lonsdale ,Arthur Day, Beth Donegan, Ellie Gardiner, Gen Johnstone, Gerard Herten, Giulia Folini, Graeme Busch, Grant Jeffrey, Jesse Dawkins, John Gardiner, Lorraine Morgan, Mai Tran, Monica Raphael, Neil Price, Noel Duffy, Paula Horton, Peter Chen, Phil Giddings, Phil Jelliff, Pierre Brokner, Richard Homburg, Rod Gray, Simon Vandestadt, Steve Horton, Sue Noy, Tim Greenough, Xenia Muenger as well as a number of others that helped in big and small ways on the day.

Also, a shoutout to our coaching squad (Merv Trease, Don Baker, Kerry Williams, Franco Lombardi, Greg Robinson, Glen White, Paul Monks, Rod Gray, Steve Amor & Wendy Ross) that went out on Saturday with the Bogong crew and Sunday with a batch of Rogaine Victoria trainees.

Congratulations to Byron Sanford, Jordan Sanford on Saturday and Kate Gavens, Tom Lothian on Sunday who took out the overall victory on each day. Our podium was:-

1st – Kate Gavens, Tom Lothian (1290pts)
2nd – Rodney Polkinghorne, Kent Bennett. (1270pts)
3rd – Tim Chiu, Emma Morris. (1260pts)

Also, a shoutout to Isla Duffy who as a junior old set her own route, helped out at the start of the event. cracked some jokes on the microphone and managed to score a cracking 900 points to help her dad take out the Family category on Sunday!
