Australasian Rogaining Champs 7 – 8 September 2024

Into the Jarrah forest — Wild Magazine

The next Australasian Rogaining Championships (ARC) will be held in Western Australia over the weekend of 7th and 8th September 2024.

There has been a forced change in location. The ARC will now be held in a location 3hrs south of Perth and less than 1hr from Bunbury. The closest town is Donnybrook. If camping, bring your own drinking water.

The course has a few pines, but is mostly stunning Jarrah – Marri – Blackbutt forest. The setting and vetting team look forward to showing you some complex river valleys 150 – 300m a.s.l., with some topographical mysteries!

Bus transport will be available, departing Perth Airport at approx 2:30pm on the Friday before the event and returning approx 6pm on the Sunday. The bus will stop at a supermarket and a restaurant for dinner on the way. As an alternative, Jetstar has just started direct flights with good deals to Busselton/Margaret River airport. That’s nearer the rogaine but would need a hire car.
There will be a partner finding service, so if you don’t have a team, contact the Rogaine Partner Matching Service pennyd@westnet.com.au.

Student travel subsidy
The ARC will also be the Australian Intervarsity Rogaining Championships. For the Intervarsity Champs, the Nigel Aylott Memorial Sports Foundation (NAMSF) will again be offering generous funding to cover the travel costs for one university team from each state and territory to enable them to compete. To participate, teams of 2-5 students must be enrolled at the same tertiary institution. The VRA is responsible for determining the selection criteria for a subsidised Victorian team. Entrants should email the VRA as soon as possible for details about the selection process.

For further ARC info
Any further questions about the ARC can be directed to Event Info eventinfo@wa.rogaine.asn.au but much more will be known soon. We will update this announcement as things progress, but for the very latest you can visit the event website here.

Book early for best deals on flights. As well as the rogaine, take a week or two to explore Dunsborough, Margaret River, Augusta, Pemberton, Denmark, Albany, Stirling Ranges and the Porongurup National Park. The Stirling Range NP, and the stunning day walk to the top of Bluff Knoll, is highly recommended for its spectacular views. Another one for the bucket list. Who said WA was flat!
